From the idea to the mat
from the idea to the mat - how a wash+dry mat is created
Follow the origin of a wash+dry design mat from the idea to production, from delivery to the presentation in the stores.
A mat is just a mat? Not at all! A mat - this is the exciting story that begins on a white background, enriched by a lot of handwork and teamwork and finally finds its destiny in your house or apartment. A mat looks like a simple product at first sight - but it's not that simple. From the first idea to the finished mat, it is a long way to go with high-tech production processes and a lot of manual work.
Our two factories in Austria and Poland produce thousands of mats per year. Multilayer operation is carried out around the clock seven days a week.
Observe markets and trends
At the beginning of the development of the design, the first step is to observe and analyze the market in the interior and lifestyle sector, to identify current and future trends and to filter customer requirements in the mat segment. Basisc trends are visualized and related to design and motif preferences as well as relevant color and consumer milieus.
Design and collection development
On the basis of out-of-trend trends, the design management team plans and develops the new collection together with international licensors, artists and textual designers. After the first design of a mat, the design templates are created using the technical specifications for mat production. The sketches are the basis for the development of different color concepts and coloring. After a design in shape and color is created, the different sizes are decided and created, in which it is produced. After approval by our design management you will follow a production of a sample collection. In the final production, a design package is not released until it has passed the final quality control and quality assurance. We attach great importance to quality in design and production.

Die Produktion
Our mats are produced in Austria and Poland. The fast accessibility, combined with a complete value chain, know-how and flexibility, make these to high-quality production sites. In our factories, we work according to the highest standards of quality, which are an indispensable basis for successful and sustainable production. In addition to ISO 90001 certification in central production plants, the OEKO-TEX certificate, the IS-OETI-TESTED certificate and the European standards for smoke and fire behavior EN 13501-1 are the standard for our products. The responsible use of raw materials and energy, the avoidance of environmentally harmful substances in production as well as the quality assurance are indispensable necessities, which are of great importance to us. We regard the participation in sustainable production as a personal duty. After final approval in design management, a wash + dry mat passes through several production steps before you hold it in your hands.
The material of the mats is made of high-quality high-twist nylon fiber 6.6. The nylon pile ensures a lasting brushing effect and long optical cleanliness, since dirt sinks to the mat ground compared to a carpet pile. The surface of the material also ensures very good moisture absorption and rapid evaporation.
Beforehand, however, the colors of the designs are compiled in the color kitchen. This is done according to strict color formulas to assure color consistency throughout the entire range. The printing machine allows a selection of 44 standard colors and an unlimited variety of special colors, all of which are water-soluble, contain no chemicals and are thus environmentally friendly. This is confirmed by our Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification.

In the printing process, the blank pass through five different steps. It is possible to print 50 cm per minute and thus produce around 1,000 m² every day. The colors are sprayed into the pile fibers by means of nozzles. The fibers of the pile are introduced by the addition of steam and can be completely dyed. The colors are fixed in the damper and then rinsed out. Finally, the mats are cleaned with water, the water is completely removed by a vacuum and the mats leave the printing machine after the drying process.
Then, the cutting and printing of the printed designs on the roll is performed on an automated cutting table.
In the next production step, the raw rubber, which has already been cut to size according to the mat size, is connected to the printed mat pile. For this, the printed mat is placed on the raw rubber and the rubber edges are attached along the pile. By means of a vulcanization process at 160 ° C, the nitrile rubber is bonded to the pile. The heat and pressure changes the molecular structure of the rubber, giving it a durable and long-lasting consistency. In this step, the care instructions and production numbers are also embossed in the back of the mat. With the production number, every mat is therefore comprehensible in its manufacture.
